Mark David Chapman's parole hearing transcripts released

John Lennon's killer admitted during his parole hearing last week that he is ashamed of shooting the former Beatle nearly 30 years ago.

In the hearing transcripts released today (August 19), Mark David Chapman told parole officials that he has developed a greater appreciation and understanding of the significance of the life he took.

"I recognised that that 25-year-old man, I don't think he really appreciated the life that he was taking, that this was a human being," he said. "I feel now at 53 I have grown into a deeper understanding of what a human life is. I have changed a lot."

Chapman also said that he has come to realise how much his actions also affected Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono, and their children, reports the Associated Press.

Chapman was denied release from a New York prison where he has been serving a 20-years-to-life sentence after confessing to gunning Lennon down in Manhattan in 1980. He is scheduled to appear before the parole board again in August 2010.

As badly as I want to say this guy deserves to rot, I feel as though it would be against what John would have wanted. Although a lot of people say he was an asshole in person, his PERSONA was one of a forgiving, peace loving man....sans the song "How do you sleep" =P

This isn't a simple homicide, its a crime against humanity:- the human race lost out and it turns my stomach to think there are all these documentarys about this chapman bastsrd and now (if I remeber correctly) a film what a fuckin joke he commited this unforgivable crime to be famous... and he is.

......i would normally agree with let him rot, but i think the best thing now would be to let him go, that way he'd be finally dead within 24 hours of release so no more parole stories and finally good fucking riddance to a complete wanker that robbed us of one of the greatest song writers ever...

frankly we all know (from the documentaries) that he was a narcissistic bastard who literally killed John Lennon for attention. He's still a narcissist, in all the interviews he's a self-centered dick, keep him in there.

This coward should be tar and feathered in NY City or London and people should be allowed to chase him with baseball bats wrapped in barbwire. Sorry John but he took you to early and this mans a monster.

We have lost out on so much music from John, due to this vile specimen. He doesnt deserve an article on how he has accepted it was wrong to kill one of the best lyricists of our time

eh, anyone who thinks chapman robbed us of anything other than a rich guy, is an idiot. had he killed lennon in 1966 he would have been robbing us of one of thegreatest songwriters ever, but he didn't. chapman was smart enough to know the fastest way to get famous and had the balls to go through with it. lets give him some credit for that.

You know what, Lennon would be turning in his grave if he was reading some of these comments. They're exactly what he was standing against.
