Producer hits back at Oasis leader over 'three chords' comment

Mark Ronson has hit back at Noel Gallagher after the Oasis leader said that Amy Winehouse and Kaiser Chiefs' producer should improve and "learn three chords on the guitar and go write a tune".

The guitarist also accused Ronson of ruining other people's songs with his covers.

The producer re-ignited the Jay-Z row by jibing on his MySpace blog that he was taking guitar lessons from the rapper.

He added: "Noel Gallagher said I should 'learn three chords on the guitar and go write a tune'. So I just wanted him to know that I'm actually taking guitar lessons from Jay-Z right now and he's already taught me both chords to 'Wonderwall' (tune!).

"In fact, it's so much fun having Jay teach me all of Noel's songs on the guitar (hooray!) that I'm thinking of doing an Oasis/Jay-Z remix album a la 'The Grey Album'. Potential titles are 'Champagne Superhova' or 'Definitely Jay Z'. I'll keep you posted."

Ronson also took a final dig at Gallagher who criticised the producer, Amy Winehouse, Kaiser Chiefs and Scouting For Girls on Radio 1 on Friday (August 15), by adding: "P.P.S. Noel, I did write a song called 'Back To Black', which actually has seven chords in it."

You won't find an Oasis fan who doesn't like an Oasis tune because Gallagher has written the same tune several hundred times over. Oasis fans and music fans are two different things. We know Gallagher is as much of a musical genius as he is a United fan, & it gets a bit embarrassng when he mocks other people. As for Ronson, when you're that offensive to listen to you have to expect a bit of abuse every now and then.

to someone who knows their music, ronson is an irritating, highly overrated c*nt. --------------------------------I know my music, believe me, and much as I loved Oasis back when they were good and interesting (i.e. mid-90s, when I saw them live four times), they are completely irrelevant now and the new single is just rubbish - they haven't even managed their usual trick of the 'comeback' single being pretty good, to be followed by a useless album. Back to Black is miles ahead of any Oasis song you care to mention, and there are some goodies in their back catalogue. Oasis should have called it a day years ago. Noel's pathetic 'jokes' about any currently popular acts are an example of his insecurity. I'm sure his new album will be huge, but I won't be buying it, unlike the next long players from Ronson, Winehouse and the Kaisers. In the interview, Noel hadn't even heard of some of the acts he was commenting on. Hardly someone with his finger on the pulse.

It'd be interesting to see where British music would be without the Britrock revival in the 90's which Oasis spear headed. You really cool Oasis haters probably don't remember that period do you? I mean let's face it that was what? 15 years ago? Music didn't really exist then did it? It only came along in these past 3-4 years dressed 'sharply' in Topshop clothing being all 'cool' and 'alternative'. Oasis make rock and roll music and even when they're half arsing it they're still better than any contemporary indie or nu rave shite. And they're certainly better than the trumpet weilding cock that is Mark 'Mr Personality' Ronson. You know what needs to be commented on actually. How Oasis are 'no longer relevant' and how they've only made '2 good albums'. Because those lines haven't been used a million times already by countless generic indie kids and scenesters who probably think some dross like The Black Kids are the second coming of Christ. Oasis and the Gallagher brothers especially are a British musical institution. The way they're selling out arena's across the world some 15 years after they're first (and apparently only good) album reflects this. I think I made my point. Case closed.

I love Noel Galligar's comments, hes very aware what hes doing, as is Liam. I'd love to be so untouchable I could attack everyone verbally. It's funnier too because Oasis never were as good a band as they claim to be and they have such a really narrow minded view of music. These comebacks were weak. Since when does the amount of chords determine the quality of a song? I've heard songs that were good with 2 chords and songs that were good with 10 chords. I've also heard songs that were bad with 2 chords and songs that were bad with 10 chords. I don't think this guy is in a different leage than Noel. Oasis have alot of good songs and probably have alot more left in them.

I'm sick to death of mark ronson. as far as i can see he simply takes a track that he knows people like, i.e. Just or Valerie, and shoves a few trumpets in there. Super producer, i don't think so. As long as he's working with mediocre people like the kaiser chiefs I don't really care, but having a pop at Noel is beyond a joke. Oasis revolutionised the British music scene in the 90's, and all these kids on here who say they didn't, and idolise the current dirge such as the kooks and scouting for girls, need to have a history lesson. Watch the Live Forever documentery. That'll show you how relevent Oasis were, and the tickets sales on wednesday morning will prove that they have also had a lasting legacy.

It's nice to see all the indie kids proving me right. 'They've not done anything relevant in blah blah blah'. Are those lines about Oasis not being relevant indoctrinated into you? Noel turns up on a Radio show after a night on the lash and makes a few throwaway comments and people lose their minds over it. But whenever someone from a lesser band slags off someone else no one bats an eyelid. That there proves that Oasis are 'relevant' because people still go nuts over every little comment Noel or Liam make. Any band who inspires a generation will always be relevant because of how they've paved the way for other acts to make their mark in the music business. That's why The Beatles and The Stones are still relevant. Most contemporary music is shite. Especially Mark Ronson. What does he do apart from play trumpets over songs. Wesley1:a) what the hell do you mean "to anyone who knows music"? I got an A in music tech at A Level and have been going to festivals for six years. I've been in 3 bands and played around 40 gigs. Mark Ronson has taken songs, both good and bad, and made them different and, (often) good. But why the hell should my opinion be anymore valid than a ten-year old girl, or a 50 year old dad going through a mid-life crisis?b) I've never been a fan of Oasis, and Noel commenting on "three chords" is laughably hypocritical.c) Saw Newton Faulkner at V Festival this weekend and he was incredible. Not just an amazing voice, but a brilliant musician. He strummed and played drums on different bits of his guitar with his left-hand (simaltaneously), played tapped notes and chords with his right whilst also occassionally drumming on other parts of his guitar, and using his feet to play a sort of synth piano thing on the floor. All this plus singing fantastically and being a genuinely warm and funny performer who did a marvellous one-man version of Bohemian Rhapsody. Listen/watch before commenting.Just a general note about Oasis, it is indeed true that they inspired lots of bands and, having watched the definitely maybe documentary, there is no doubt that they had a very interesting and emphatic introduction to the music scene. This does not make them a good band. It makes them a well-known band.One final note: both the gallaghers are mouthy idiots. Saw them at Glastonbury 2004 and they were complete shite. Saw Muse at the same festival, who showed how to be an influential act and fucking incredible live at the same time.

I think what Noel says about bands isn't mallicious, its his honest opinion and people can't seem to handle it, Noel has said well why not write your own tunes? Mark Ronson has gone all defensive like the talentless cunt he is. Oasis revived the music scene in the 90's. People say "you'll never beat Morning Glory", yes your right you won't. But compare Don't Believe The Truth to most albums that year and they fucking killed most bands, apart from the Arctic Monkeys perhaps and a select few. Oasis are living legends amongst the music industry. Although, I can see them retiring after this album tour.

Iâ€™ve been going to â€˜em for 14 years, with literally 100s and 100s of other gigs along the way, so yeah, I think I know what Iâ€™m talking about. Firstly, a) When I say 'people who know their music', I mean people who appreciate legendary artists throughout the history of music who have moulded and influenced the music we know and love today! Past legends, such as Dylan, Hendrix, Led Zep, Beatles, Stones, The Who, Velvet Underground, Neil Young - to name but a few. Proper artists, not a 2-bit jumped up f*ck wit like ronson. He could never be mentioned in the same breath as these kinds of artists. And from the fact you've ONLY been to 6 festivals, Iâ€™d say that makes you about 22 - 23?...(any older and Iâ€™d question what the f*ck youâ€™ve actually been doing since you left school), so obviously youâ€™re a bit wet behind the ears. My advice to you would be to search out history and roots of music, and actually listen to, NOT STUDY, the influential people of music and then you might see ronson for the steaming pile of horse manure he really is!!!Secondly, b) it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that you don't like oasis, as oasis draw their influences from many of the legends mentioned earlier, some of whom you've probably never heard of, let alone â€˜studiedâ€™! Thirdly, c) yes I did see newton faulkner, and as talented as he may be (something Iâ€™m not disputing or knocking, as anyone who can play guitar has talentâ€¦..itâ€™s how they use it), but it doesn't change the fact he f*ckin slaughtered bohemian rhapsody, freddy mercury must have been turning in his grave!!! it is funny how a band like oasis, that aren't good (...apparently!!!!), have been so inspiring to so many bands today, some of whom you probably like. maybe oasis are good, but you just missed the boat!...and finally, just because you have an 'O' level in music and can play a few chords on guitar doesn't mean you're an expert in music my friend. Far from it. Maybe one day youâ€™ll realise that music is much more than coursework, exams and a bit of paper.
