16 fire-fighters battle to control car park blaze

A fire broke out at the Reading Festival today (August 23) at around 4pm (BST), when fire fighters were called to deal with the blaze.

The fire broke out in one of the festival car parks, with around 10 vehicles alight, reports BBC News. The aftermath of the fire can be seen in NME.COM's photo gallery from the festival.

Smoke could be seen from the main festival arena.

The fire was contained by around 5pm, with no injuries reported. Festival-goer Jessie Fletcher, who was parked near to the fire site, told NME.COM that the fire was started when a punter lost control of a barbeque.

A spokesperson for Berkshire Fire and Rescue said that as well as local firefighters, the festival's own fire service team had been in attendance to help deal with the blaze.

Later a police source told NME.COM that the fire had started when a festival goer attempted to have a barbecue by their vehicle but lost control of the blaze. The fan was able to move their car safely but were unable to stop the fire from spreading.
